Iran says US signals readiness to resume nuclear talks

15 May 2026 16:14

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran has received a new message from Washington indicating interest in continuing negotiations, despite a recent post by US President Donald Trump describing Iran’s proposal as unacceptable.

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Araghchi clarified that reports of a rejected proposal referred to comments made several days earlier, when Trump said in a post that the proposal was unacceptable, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“What is being reported about the US rejecting Iran’s proposal or response relates to several days ago, when Mr. Trump wrote in a tweet that it was unacceptable. However, after that, we again received messages from the American side saying that they are ready to continue negotiations and engagement,” he said.

He added that exchanges between Tehran and Washington are ongoing, though progress remains slow.

Araghchi also addressed the issue of Iran’s enriched uranium, explaining why talks have reached an impasse and have been postponed to later stages.

“The issue of our enriched uranium is a very complex one. We have now come to the conclusion with the Americans that, since this issue is extremely difficult and we have practically reached an impasse, it should be postponed to later stages of the negotiations,” he said.
