Iran says US struck Bushehr twice as Hormuz tensions escalate

Iranian authorities said the city of Bushehr came under two US attacks on Monday morning, damaging several sites, according to Mohammad Mozaffari, Bushehr Province Governor.

He said the extent of the damage and the consequences of the strikes are still being assessed, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

"Minutes ago, several areas of Bushehr were hit by American enemy projectiles. The extent of these attacks is currently under investigation.," Mozaffari noted.

The latest strikes took place as the US military confirmed the death of a third service member in recent days and a month-old ceasefire agreement continued to unravel amid a growing struggle for control of the Strait of Hormuz.

The military stated that the strikes targeted Iranian command centres, air defence and coastal surveillance systems, maritime assets, missile and drone launch sites, as well as communications infrastructure.

Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported explosions across several parts of the country, from the Gulf port cities of Bandar Mahshahr and Bandar Imam Khomeini to Jask and Sirik near the Strait of Hormuz.

In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced missile and drone strikes targeting US military positions in Jordan and Kuwait. Air raid sirens were also activated in Bahrain.

The IRGC claimed it had targeted US aircraft at Jordan's Aqaba airport and destroyed hangars at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Azraq. It further asserted that US military facilities at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait had also been struck.
