Iran says US support for Israel's actions - main obstacle to peace in Middle East
US support for Israel's actions in the Middle East has become the main problem for achieving international peace.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the statement at a press conference with his Syrian counterpart Bassam Sabbagh, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
"Unfortunately, the UN Security Council cannot fulfil its main task of establishing international peace only because one country, the United States, supports the Zionist regime with all its might," Araghchi was quoted as saying by his press service.
"Unity in the region, the Arab and Islamic world is very important to increase pressure on the Zionist regime and stop its crimes. These efforts have been largely effective but have failed to stop the Israeli regime's crimes in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, as well as attacks on Syria," the diplomat added.
For the record, US military aid to Israel has soared to its highest in decades amid Israel’s yearlong war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. More than forty thousand Palestinians, including a large share of civilians, have died in the conflict, according to the United Nations and the Gaza health ministry.
Israel is responding to Hamas’s October 2023 attack that killed approximately 1,200 Israelis, the deadliest in the country’s history. US military support is also proving essential for Israel during its more recent hostilities with Hezbollah in Lebanon, and with Iran.
