Iran sets out plan for high-stakes Switzerland talks

21 June 2026 13:31

Iran has set out the schedule for upcoming negotiations in Switzerland, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, who spoke to IRNA.

Baghaei said the talks will follow a one-day format. In the morning, bilateral meetings will be held with delegations from Qatar and Pakistan, which are acting as mediators in the process.

In the afternoon, four-party consultations are expected to take place, involving representatives from Iran, the United States, Qatar, and Pakistan, the spokesman added.

These technical-level talks in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, represent a follow-up to an interim peace agreement between the US and Iran.

This agreement, known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, was signed electronically earlier in the week with mediation support from Pakistan and Qatar, aiming to implement a ceasefire, address Iran's nuclear program, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and advance broader regional stability following recent conflict.

Earlier plans for Friday (June 19) sessions faced postponement amid tensions related to Lebanon and Israel, but momentum resumed with delegations arriving over the weekend.
