Iran sets tough conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz

Iran has conveyed its conditions to the United States through intermediaries for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei said, Tasnim reports.

Rezaei noted that Tehran would not reopen the strategic waterway until Washington accepts its demands, which include an end to the war and the release of frozen Iranian funds.

“The strait will not be opened until the US accepts Iran’s conditions. The US must end the war, release Iran’s frozen funds, and in general [meet Iran’s demands] in the region, including in Lebanon and Gaza,” Rezaei said.

He added that any agreement between Iran and Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz would not affect the question of reopening the waterway.
