Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan agree to launch new transport corridor

20 July 2026 18:04

Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan have signed an agreement to establish a joint road transport corridor following a meeting of representatives from the three countries in the Iranian city of Mashhad.

The first trial freight shipment, involving trucks from all three countries, is scheduled to take place within the next month, Caliber.Az reports, citing Tajik media.

The pilot operation is expected to test the efficiency of border, customs and transport procedures, as well as coordination among the relevant authorities.

To advance the project, the parties agreed to establish a permanent working group to coordinate implementation, address emerging issues and oversee the execution of agreed measures.

In the longer term, the participants are considering extending the transport corridor to other Central Asian countries and China.
