Iran, Tajikistan aim to boost trade to $500 million

14 October 2025 19:26

Iran and Tajikistan are intensifying efforts to bolster bilateral trade, aiming to elevate annual exchanges to $500 million, focusing on energy, technology, and green investments.

At the 2025 International Investment Forum in Dushanbe, Iran's Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Seyed Ali Madanizadeh, highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

He emphasised that the forum serves as a "bridge for sharing ideas and a gateway to a sustainable and prosperous regional future," underscoring the potential for deepened economic ties between the two nations.

A significant milestone in this collaboration was the recent summit between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. The leaders signed 23 cooperation agreements valued at approximately $500 million, covering sectors such as transportation, customs, fisheries, mining, and agriculture. These agreements are seen as foundational steps toward achieving the $500 million trade target.

Despite facing economic sanctions, Iran is committed to regional cooperation, particularly in clean energy, digital economy, transportation, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and mining. The country is also eager to share its expertise in artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies with Tajikistan, aiming to foster technological advancement and talent development.

Tajikistan's abundant natural resources and growing infrastructure projects, such as the CASA-1000 power transmission line, position it as a promising partner for Iranian investments. These developments are expected to facilitate increased energy cooperation and trade between the two nations.

The strengthened ties between Iran and Tajikistan reflect a shared commitment to sustainable development and regional stability, with both countries working towards a prosperous future through enhanced economic collaboration.
