Iran to adjust foreign policy based on US actions Official says
Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baghaei has said that Iran’s relations with the US should not be viewed in the short term, as Tehran plans to adjust its foreign policy based on the actions of the incoming US administration.
"The Iran-US relations should not be viewed in isolation, based on short-term periods or as something dependent on one person, government, or political party. A historical context is necessary," he said during a press conference, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He was responding to a question about the future dynamics between the two countries following the return of Donald Trump to the White House.
“Iran would adjust its future policies in line with the approach taken by the opposing side. We will determine what actions are necessary and what are not," he added.
The Iranian official noted that, as a country committed to de-escalation in the Middle East, Iran would welcome any US actions that promote ceasefire and peace in Lebanon and Gaza. Earlier, the information went viral that Washington and Tehran could ultimately reach a diplomatic agreement during Donald Trump's second presidential term, despite ongoing mutual hostility.
However, some sources did not rule out the possibility that Trump would significantly intensify sanctions on Iran and cut off its ability to export oil.
On October 20, in an interview with Al Arabiya, Trump stated that, had he been president, the conflict in Gaza between Hamas and Israel could have been avoided. He also expressed confidence that, if re-elected, he would be able to "end the chaos" in the Middle East.
