Iran urges Israel to halt strikes, pull out of Lebanese territory
Iran has called for Israel to halt its attacks on Lebanon and withdraw its forces from Lebanese territory as part of the implementation of a US–Iran memorandum of understanding.
The statement was made by Ali Bahreini, Iranian ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“First and foremost, regarding Lebanon, we have clearly stated to all participants in the memorandum of understanding that the war against the Lebanese people must be stopped,” Bahreini said at a briefing in Geneva. “Therefore, there should be no attacks on Lebanon, and Israeli troops must be withdrawn from Lebanese territory.”
He added that negotiations between the parties held on June 21 in Switzerland continued until midnight.
The diplomat also said the sides had made “good progress” in the discussions.
