Iran, US on brink of agreement before force intervened — FM

Iran and the United States were close to reaching an agreement when Washington decided to employ military force against Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told ABC News.

The minister emphasised that he could detail exactly what they had agreed on and how the deal was within their reach. Araghchi noted that the decision to use force came amid progress in the diplomatic process.

He also stressed that the Iranian government does not consider itself bound by any limitations in defending the country. 

“I don't think any leader of a country has the right to say so. No. We are defending ourselves, and we have every right, every legitimate right, to defend ourselves,” Araghchi stated.
