Iran-US talks in Islamabad may extend by one more day
Negotiations between Iranian and US delegations in Islamabad could be prolonged for an additional day as discussions move into more detailed stages.
After initial consultations, the talks have progressed from general issues to “detailed and technical discussions on a number of topics,” according to Tasnim News Agency.
Although the negotiations were originally scheduled to last one day, there is a possibility they will be extended to allow expert-level discussions to continue, the report said, noting that no final confirmation has yet been made.
The April 11 talks in Islamabad were triggered by a recent large-scale military escalation and a fragile ceasefire: the US and Iran entered negotiations after weeks of conflict that disrupted the region and global energy flows, prompting urgent diplomatic efforts to prevent further war.
They also build on months of prior diplomatic attempts, including indirect US–Iran negotiations in Oman and elsewhere in early 2026 that focused heavily on Iran’s nuclear program but failed to produce a lasting agreement amid sanctions and security disputes.
