Iran warns of consequences as Israeli strikes in Lebanon continue

Iran has warned that Israel’s continued military operations in Lebanon will have serious repercussions, with Tehran pledging to take all necessary measures to protect its interests and allies.

The warning was issued by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson strongly condemned Israel’s operations against various areas of Lebanon, which he said resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of Lebanese civilians, as well as extensive damage to residential properties and national infrastructure. He warned that Israel’s actions could have serious consequences for peace and security across the region.

Baghaei also argued that the United States bears full responsibility for the continuation of Israeli military actions in Lebanon under the terms of the recently signed US-Iran memorandum on conflict settlement.

“The Foreign Ministry spokesman placed direct responsibility for the current situation on the United States and, referring to Clause 1 of the June 18, 2026 memorandum on ending the war, which explicitly provides for the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon as an integral part of the agreement to end the war on all fronts, stressed that Iran will take all necessary measures to protect its interests, security, rights, and the rights of its allies,” the ministry said.

Earlier this week, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding calling for the immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

The statement follows reports that Israeli aircraft carried out strikes on 16 localities in Lebanon’s southern Nabatieh Governorate, leaving 23 people dead and more than 30 others injured.
