Iran warns of restrictions on ships backing US sanctions in Hormuz

Ships from countries that support US sanctions against Iran could face restrictions and higher transit costs in the Strait of Hormuz, a senior Iranian lawmaker has said, Iran International reports.

“Any country that sides with the United States in sanctioning the Iranian people should know its ships will face serious limitations and costs when passing through this strait,” Hamidreza Haji Babaei said, adding that Tehran would enforce its authority over the strategic waterway.

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.
