Iran will never stop developing its nuclear program - energy official
Iran will continue to develop its nuclear industry and will never halt this process, a spokesperson for the Islamic Republic’s Atomic Energy Organization, Behrouz Kamalvandi, stated.
“They should know that this sector is widely developed in our country and cannot be destroyed. Considering our existing capacities and capabilities, the development of this field will continue unabated,” Kamalvandi said in an interview with an Iranian state television, Caliber.Az reports.
Iran’s nuclear program, overseen by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), has been a focal point of international tension for decades, with concerns from Western nations and Israel that it could lead to nuclear weapons development, a charge Iran consistently denies, asserting its program is for peaceful purposes like energy and medical research.
The statement by AEOI spokesperson Behrouz Kamalvandi on June 24, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to continuing its nuclear industry unabated, comes in the wake of a fragile ceasefire with Israel, mediated by Qatar and the United States under President Donald Trump. This ceasefire, announced on the same day, followed a 12-day conflict that began on June 13, when Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Isfahan, Natanz, and Fordow, followed by U.S. airstrikes on June 21, targeting additional Iranian nuclear and military sites.
