Iranian cleric: "Trump’s call for talks is demand for surrender"

A senior Iranian cleric has said that calls by US President Donald Trump for negotiations with Tehran are effectively demands for Iran’s surrender.

Speaking during Eid al-Adha prayers in Tehran on Wednesday, May 27, Ahmad Khatami dismissed the idea that Washington is genuinely seeking dialogue.

“He constantly speaks of negotiations with Iran, but the truth is that what they mean is not negotiation, but surrender,” Khatami said.

He added that the United States is seeking to humiliate Iran, but insisted that such an outcome would not be achieved.

Khatami said Washington would “take that wish to the grave.”
