Iranian editor warns Europe could face strikes over US bases
The editor-in-chief of Iran’s hardline Kayhan newspaper, Hossein Shariatmadari, said on Tuesday that Iran could extend its strikes to Europe under certain conditions, warning that countries hosting US military assets could become targets.
Shariatmadari wrote that if European bases were used by the United States, Iran would respond in a manner similar to its strikes on Arab countries. He argued that military installations in European states made available to Washington “can and must” be considered legitimate targets for Iranian attacks.
“European governments know we can strike, and strike well,” Shariatmadari wrote.
He further claimed that Europe is highly vulnerable to such attacks and has limited capacity to defend against them.
