Iranian FM highlights reopening of passenger border with Azerbaijan as key issue
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has highlighted the importance of reopening the passenger border between Iran and Azerbaijan, describing it as a key issue in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Araghchi noted that the topic has been consistently raised during meetings at the highest levels, including between the presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan, as well as during his own discussions with Azerbaijan’s foreign minister, Caliber.Az reports per Tasnim.
The Iranian official explained that Azerbaijan had justified the border closure by stating that all of its borders were currently shut, not just the one with Iran. Despite this, Araghchi confirmed that Azerbaijan had promised to review the situation and reconsider the matter. Iran is still awaiting a response from the Azerbaijani authorities on the issue, he added.
