Iranian hackers breach FBI Director Kash Patel’s email
The Iran-linked hacking group Handala Hack Team has announced that it breached the personal email of FBI Director Kash Patel and released some of the materials publicly, Reuters reports.
The hackers’ website claims that Patel “will now find his name among the list of successfully hacked victims.” The publication includes photos and documents allegedly connected to the bureau chief.
The FBI confirmed that Patel's emails had been targeted. In a statement, bureau spokesman Ben Williamson said, "we have taken all necessary steps to mitigate potential risks associated with this activity" and that the data involved was "historical in nature and involves no government information."
Reuters was unable to verify the authenticity of the emails, but the address matches information involved in previous leaks. Some of the materials reviewed by the agency include personal and work-related correspondence from 2010–2019.
