Iranian lawmaker urges maximum use of Strait of Hormuz

A member of Iran’s parliament's national security committee stated on Wednesday, May 27, that Tehran should maximise its use of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasising the global dependence on the strategic waterway.

Amir Hayat-Moghadam said, “The Strait of Hormuz is an important economic strait that the world needs, and today this strait is in the hands of the Islamic Republic.”

The lawmaker, a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), described the strait as a significant achievement for Iran and called for changes to the legal framework governing it.

“The Strait of Hormuz is now considered an important achievement for us, and we must make maximum use of this geopolitical position,” he said.
