Western approach to global conflict resolution worsens situation Iranian leader says

23 October 2024 20:31

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that the approach of Western countries to resolving global conflicts only exacerbates the situation and contributes to their escalation.

President Pezeshkian made these remarks during a meeting in an expanded format at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

He emphasised that the Western approach to conflict resolution only worsens the situation and has played a role in the growth of these conflicts.

The Iranian leader noted that Western countries believe that democracy and justice can only be achieved through the paths they dictate.

"The pursuit of dominance and unipolarity has jeopardised peace and multilateral cooperation," the Iranian president added.

He highlighted that this policy has resulted in a surge of conflicts, wars, and violence, as well as the imposition of an unprecedented number of economic sanctions.

Moreover, President Pezeshkian warned that Israel would face serious repercussions if it acts aggressively towards Iran.

"If the Zionist [Israeli] regime makes a mistake and takes action against the Islamic Republic of Iran, it will receive a decisive and unimaginable response," Pezeshkian stated following his meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.

Pezeshkian emphasised Iran's commitment to establishing peace in the Middle East.

"We do not seek to escalate conflict or tension in the region [Middle East]. We welcome all efforts aimed at achieving peace and tranquility," he said. "I became president to ensure harmony and integrity within my country and to strengthen relations and cooperation with the world."

The BRICS bloc, which originally began as BRIC in 2006, encompasses some of the world’s largest emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which joined in 2010. BRICS positions itself as a counterbalance to Western-dominated institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.

The latest BRICS summit, which marks the 16th annual gathering, is hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan on October 22-24, further strengthening the group’s political and economic agenda aimed at challenging the West’s dominance.
