Iranian media lists US universities in Middle East as potential targets

06 April 2026 18:07

Tasnim, an Iranian news outlet, has published a list of US-linked universities in Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, presenting them as potential targets.

Three Iranian universities have been affected since the start of the conflict: Iran University of Science and Technology on March 28, Shahid Beheshti University on April 3, and Sharif University of Technology on April 6, the report says.

Tasnim then focused on what it called “US academic assets” near Iran, listing six American branch campuses in Education City, Qatar — Northwestern, Georgetown, Carnegie Mellon, Texas A&M, Virginia Commonwealth, and Weill Cornell — as well as four US-accredited universities in the UAE (University of Sharjah, University of Dubai, American University of Ras Al Khaimah, and American University in Dubai).

Other institutions named include New York University in Abu Dhabi, the American University in Kuwait, affiliated with Dartmouth College, the American University in Bahrain, accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and a planned branch of the University of New Haven in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
