Iranian MFA: Increased diplomatic engagements boost Azerbaijan-Iran relations

The increase in the number of meetings and visits between Azerbaijani and Iranian officials contributes to mutual understanding, improvement of relations and elimination of common concerns.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei made the remarks at a press conference in Tehran on February 3, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

According to him, officials of the two countries held talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and resolving some misunderstandings.

Baghaei stressed the importance of the South Caucasus and neighbouring countries, including Azerbaijan and Armenia, for Iran.

“Iran has good relations with both countries and diplomatic visits have further increased in recent days. Iran has repeatedly noted that it is ready to provide any assistance in advancing negotiations between the two countries,” he said.

For the record, Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev has recently held several high-level meetings in Iran, including with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Mehdi Sanaei, Political Advisor to the Iranian President, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, various issues relating to bilateral relations. Discussions included regional cooperation, building trust and eliminating misunderstanding, expanding cooperation beyond diplomacy, and enhancing economic and trade relations.
