Iranian military reports firing on vessels in Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s armed forces said two vessels were fired upon after attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without authorisation, according to the Iranian news outlet Nournews.
One of the incidents involved the Israeli vessel Express Room, which sails under the Liberian flag. Iranian forces said the ship ignored warnings issued by the naval units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). After failing to comply with the warnings and stopping in place, the vessel was shelled by Iranian projectiles.
In a separate incident, the container ship Mayuree Naree was also targeted after allegedly ignoring warnings from IRGC naval forces and attempting to pass through the strait. Iranian fighter jets reportedly opened fire on the vessel.
Iranian military officials emphasised that the Strait of Hormuz is under the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and stated that American and allied vessels “do not have the right to pass” through the strategic waterway without prior coordination.
