Iranian military, Taliban members clash on border with Afghanistan UPDATED

In the Iranian border region of Helmand, a clash broke out between Iranian border guards and armed members of the Taliban movement.

According to APA, Taliban militants fired at residential buildings on the outskirts of the city of Dust Mohammed.

The shootout has been stopped.

The Head of the Helmand district of Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province Meysam Barazande has said that armed clashes between Iranian border guards and Taliban members were observed on the border with Afghanistan on July 31.

“Iranian border guards and the Taliban members have just clashed on the border of the Helmand district. Clashes between border guards and the Taliban members are underway,” IRNA quotes Barazande as saying.

While commenting on the information about possible victims, Barazande noted that "this issue is being investigated".

The causes of the incident were not reported.
