Iranian MP: Talks with US seen as “continuation of the battlefield”

20 April 2026 11:57

Head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Committee Ebrahim Azizi has stated that Tehran sees the current negotiations as a continuation of the battlefield, nothing other than the battlefield in this.

Azizi made it clear that Tehran’s approach to talks with the United States fully aligns with Iran’s national interests and security considerations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Al Jazeera.

“If it yields achievements that sustain those of the battlefield, then the negotiation arena is also an opportunity for us… But not if the Americans intend to turn this into a field of excessive demands, based on their bullying approach,” he noted.

He added that participation in negotiations is viewed in Tehran as part of a broader confrontation.

Azizi, a former commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, stressed that Iran does not intend to negotiate “at any cost” and has already defined its “red lines.”

Commenting on the possible dispatch of a delegation to Islamabad, he said it would depend on incoming signals.

“We have never feared the principle of negotiation. Perhaps today or tomorrow, with further assessment, we consider it likely, providing that the American negotiating team and the messages they have received from Iran give a positive signal,” he stressed.

He also reiterated that Iran continues to insist on several conditions, including the release of frozen assets and consideration of regional issues, particularly the situation in Lebanon.

“The issue of Lebanon has been very important for us. The release of frozen assets has been among the preconditions of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Naturally, the Islamic Republic still stands on these very principles,” Azizi added.

He warned that the United States and Israel may not comply with any potential agreements if they conflict with the interests of what Tehran calls the Axis of Resistance.

“If actions are taken that are contrary to the interests of the resistance front—which is part of our field of battle—or if they do not adhere to previous commitments, then it means they have not accepted Iran’s preconditions, and this naturally has an effect,” he emphasised.
