Iranian navy commander participates in AMAN-25 maritime exercises in Pakistan

08 February 2025 12:57

Iranian Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, has arrived in Karachi, Pakistan, to participate in the ninth edition of the multinational maritime exercises, AMAN-25.

The event is set to run from February 7 to 11, 2025, and marks a significant step in strengthening the naval relations between Iran and Pakistan, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media outlets.

During a press briefing, Rear Admiral Irani highlighted the importance of Iran's participation at the highest level, signalling the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. He expressed hope that, in the future, Iran and Pakistan could organize joint naval war games, further enhancing their defence cooperation.

As part of the Iranian delegation, a combat ship is also taking part in the exercise, demonstrating Iran's active involvement in the event.

Pakistan had formally invited Iran to join the multinational exercise following a visit by Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqheri, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, to Islamabad.

The AMAN-25 exercise has brought together participants from over 60 countries, including ships, aircraft, special operations forces, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) marine teams, as well as military observers.

The exercise is divided into two phases:

  • Harbour Phase (February 7-9): This phase focuses on conventions, operational presentations, cultural exchanges, and sports activities. It serves as a platform for participants to share knowledge and strengthen diplomatic ties.

  • Sea Phase (February 10-11): The second phase will feature practical exercises such as anti-piracy and anti-terrorism drills, search and rescue operations, an international fleet review, and live-firing exercises aimed at enhancing operational coordination and readiness among participating forces.

The AMAN-25 exercises are expected to further promote collaboration among naval forces and enhance the security of international sea lanes.
