OIC taking steps to expel Israel from UN Iranian official says
Spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baghaei has said that members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are taking steps to push for Israel's removal from the UN.
"The regime that rejects the principles and objectives of the UN, international law, and peaceful coexistence, while pursuing aggressive goals against other countries, does not deserve to be a member of international institutions, particularly the UN. For some time now, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has been taking steps aimed at expelling Israel from the UN," the diplomat stated during a weekly briefing, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
The situation in the Middle East sharply escalated after Hamas militants infiltrated Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. The attack, which included the killing of residents in border settlements and the taking of hostages, triggered widespread violence. Hamas described the assault as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
In response, Israel imposed a complete blockade on the Gaza Strip and began launching airstrikes on Palestinian areas, as well as parts of Lebanon and Syria. Israel subsequently launched a ground operation in Gaza, resulting in more than 43,000 deaths and over 103,000 injuries. The majority of the casualties have been women and children.
