Iran's Supreme Leader appoints top lawmaker to lead US talks

A senior Iranian lawmaker has said that Mojtaba Khamenei set a condition stipulating that Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf should lead negotiations with the United States, Iran International reports.

Mahmoud Nabavian, Deputy Parliament Speaker, made the remarks, saying: “Our conditions were conveyed to the Pakistani side… and they said Trump accepted them,” adding that a ceasefire and talks were decided by Iran’s leadership.

He further stated that the framework for negotiations had been communicated through Pakistan, and that acceptance had been signalled by US President Donald Trump, according to his account.

Nabavian also indicated that the decision on a ceasefire and the initiation of talks was taken at the level of Iran’s leadership.
