Iranian president engages with Hamas delegation in Doha talks
On October 2, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held discussions with a senior delegation from Hamas in Doha, Qatar, during his two-day visit to the country.
The meeting was attended by the head of the Hamas movement abroad, Khaled Meshaal, and the head of Hamas's Shura council Ismail Darwish, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
Pezeshkian described the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau, in Tehran as one of the most painful experiences of his life.
He reminisced about embracing Haniyeh at his inauguration ceremony, only to discover hours later the news of his cowardly assassination at the hands of the Israeli regime.
The president condemned the atrocities committed by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon, criticising the hypocrisy of US and Western nations that profess to support democracy and human rights while backing the Israeli regime.
Referring to the recent Operation True Promise 2 carried out on October 1 night, he remarked that the West had made misleading promises to Iran, suggesting that if Iran refrained from retaliating for Haniyeh's assassination, a ceasefire in Gaza would follow.
“The continuation of the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime has led to a decisive response from the armed forces of Iran, and certainly, this regime will receive an even more crushing and stronger response if it commits the slightest mistake again,” Pezeshkian stated.
Additionally, Pezeshkian called for unity among Muslim nations, cautioning that the absence of such unity has emboldened the Israeli regime to perpetrate further crimes against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.
