Iranian speaker delivers emotional message on legacy of late supreme leader
Speaker of Iran’s parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has called on the public to attend the funeral of the slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
“People must show that they will not remain silent in the face of arrogance and will not forget the blood of their Imam,” Iranian media quotes the parliament speaker as saying.
Ghalibaf described the funeral as a demonstration of loyalty to Khamenei’s path and to the values of the Islamic Republic.
Ali Khamenei was assassinated on February 28, 2026, at age 86, in an Israeli airstrike on his compound in central Tehran during the opening of joint US-Israeli military operations against Iran.
Iranian state media confirmed his death on March 1, 2026, after the attack, which also killed other senior officials and members of his entourage.
