Iraq keen to expand cooperation with Türkiye - MFA
"Iraq-Türkiye relations are developing in a comprehensive way. Baghdad is keen to deepen cooperation with Turkey, including in the areas of economy and fighting terrorism," Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahhaf told Anadolu.
Referring to the results of the May elections in Türkiye, the Iraqi diplomat expressed satisfaction with the re-election of Recep Tayyip Erdogan as Turkish president.
President Erdogan's victory indicates the will of the Turkish people, he stressed.
"We respect the decision of the neighbouring and fraternal Turkish people," the Iraqi diplomatic official assured.
Baghdad is in favor of expanding the relations between the two countries and developing through a common dialogue in all areas such as the economy, development, water resources, and counter-terrorism, the diplomat said.
Al-Sahhaf also pointed to the growing volume of trade between the two countries. "Any dialogue that will bring the two countries closer together is important. Iraq is seizing every opportunity for a balanced and stable relationship and the interests of the people of the two countries," he added.
