Iraq has closed the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iran after an airstrike on Iranian territory left at least one Iraqi citizen dead, according to security sources.
The strike hit an area used for passenger processing on the Iranian side of the Shalamcheh crossing, leaving at least five Iraqi nationals seriously injured, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Iraqi police later recovered the body of a man, while the wounded were transported to the hospital, with most reported to be in critical condition.
Iraqi border authorities subsequently ordered the closure of the Shalamcheh crossing to both commercial traffic and passenger movement, according to an official statement.
The move comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing concerns over cross-border security.
