Iraq signs deal with Starlink to launch satellite internet services
Iraq has signed an agreement with U.S.-based satellite internet provider Starlink to begin offering its services in the country, a senior media and communications official said.
Baligh Abu Kalal, head of the executive committee of Iraq’s Communications and Media Commission, said the newly issued license would enable the rollout of Starlink services across the Arab republic.
“The license issued to Starlink and signed today will provide Iraqi citizens with secure and high-quality internet service,” Kalal said, according to Al-Mirbad news portal. He added that “the cost of connection will be affordable for all citizens.”
Kalal also described the move as a significant step toward enhancing the country’s digital infrastructure, stating that “granting the license to Starlink is an important step towards improving internet services in Iraq.”
