Iraqi FM describes Türkiye as indispensable partner for regional stability
Iraq sees Türkiye as a key partner in maintaining regional stability, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said at a media briefing during the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
Hussein highlighted the growing cooperation between Baghdad and Ankara, particularly in the areas of security and the economy, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
“We are working to enhance collaboration in tackling shared challenges, such as combating terrorism and managing border security. Türkiye is an important partner in maintaining regional stability,” the Iraqi foreign minister noted.
Turning to the situation in Syria, Hussein said that restoring stability in the war-torn Arab republic is vital for the security of the broader region. He criticised external interventions, particularly Israel’s repeated strikes on Syrian territory, saying they only exacerbate the crisis and contribute to rising tensions.
Hussein also condemned Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza, describing it as “a clear violation of international law.” He reaffirmed Baghdad’s strong support for the rights of the Palestinian people.
The Iraqi minister further expressed satisfaction with the recent resumption of negotiations between Iran and the United States. He voiced hope that the talks would lead to a preliminary agreement that could avert the threat of war.
Both sides, he added, have shown a willingness to continue the dialogue—something Hussein described as a positive step.
