IRGC claims missile strike on US-linked vessel Panaya
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched a missile strike against a US-linked vessel identified as Panaya, in what it described as a retaliatory move following US actions in the region, according to a report by Iran International.
In a statement, the IRGC said the strike came after what it called a US attack on an Iranian tanker near the Strait of Hormuz late on Tuesday, June 2, which it claimed caused damage to the vessel’s engine room.
The IRGC further alleged that US forces targeted a communications tower belonging to the group in the southern part of Qeshm Island. It said these actions triggered a broader response involving missile strikes and drone attacks on targets it described as a US Air Force base and a US helicopter base in a country in the region, as well as on the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet.
“Any further violation of security in the Strait of Hormuz will meet with a tough response,” the IRGC said in its statement.
