IRGC Navy official warns Iran will not tolerate violations of its waters or interests
A senior official in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has said that Tehran is closely monitoring regional developments and will not allow any violations of its territorial waters or interests, according to state media reports on May 12.
Mohammad Akbarzadeh, the political deputy of the IRGC Navy, said Iran’s armed forces are tracking movements in and around the Strait of Hormuz and are prepared to respond to what he described as provocative actions, Iran International reports.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran monitors regional movements with precision and authority and will not allow any encroachment on its waters and interests,” Akbarzadeh said in televised remarks.
Akbarzadeh also said Iran has adopted what he called a broader strategic approach to the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route, and stressed that Iranian naval forces remain active in the area.
