IRGC says tanker explodes after striking mine in Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that three oil tankers attempted to pass through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz, which it described as mined, and that one of the vessels exploded and caught fire.

“Three oil tankers, with US support, attempted to pass through a mined route south of the Strait of Hormuz. After an explosion and fire broke out on one of the tankers, the other two quickly turned around and departed,” Press TV quoted the IRGC as saying.

The IRGC reiterated that it controls the Strait of Hormuz and stated that the strategic waterway “will remain completely closed as long as the United States continues its acts of aggression in the region.”

The corps also warned that any vessel attempting to pass through the strait without coordination with the Iranian side “will face the same fate.”
