IRGC warns of energy disruption if US strikes over Strait of Hormuz

07 April 2026 14:43

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned it could cut off oil and gas supplies to the United States and its regional allies if US President Donald Trump follows through on a threat to strike Iranian power plants and bridges over tensions involving the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC’s official television channel said Tehran would respond forcefully to any U.S. military action linked to efforts to reopen or secure the strategic waterway, Caliber.Az cites.

“The United States’ regional partners should know: until today, we have exercised considerable restraint due to good-neighborly relations and have taken various factors into account when selecting targets for retaliatory actions, but now all these restrictions have been lifted,” the statement said.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow shipping lane between Iran and Oman, is a critical corridor for global energy supplies, with roughly a fifth of the world’s oil consumption passing through it each day.
