IS field commander arrested in Georgia

At the Tbilisi airport, servicemen of the counter-terrorism centre of the Georgian State Security Service (SSS) have detained Tsiskara Tokhosashvili, one of the field commanders of the Islamic State (IS).

Ethnic Chechen Tokhosashvili went to fight for IS in 2015. He took part in the fighting in Syria and Iraq and led one of the organization's units in conflict zones, Gazeta.Ru reports, citing the press service of the State Security Service.

A criminal case has been initiated against him for joining a foreign terrorist organization. For aiding terrorists, he faces 10 to 17 years in prison.

Tokhosashvili is a native of the village of Omalo in the Pankisi Gorge of Georgia. The settlement is predominantly inhabited by the Chechen population.
