Israel confirms elimination of Hezbollah commander Amid intensified military operations in Lebanon
The Israeli military announced that it has killed a commander from Hezbollah's Radwan Forces’ anti-tank missile unit in the Lebanese region of Meiss El Jabal.
This operation comes as Israel continues its ground offensive in southern Lebanon, Caliber.Az reports per the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
In a statement, the Israeli military identified Araeb el Shoga as being responsible for multiple anti-tank missile attacks targeting the Ramot Naftali area in northern Israel. They also reported that Israeli forces located and struck a missile launcher prepared to target Israeli territory, along with Hezbollah weapons storage facilities.
In addition to these developments, Israeli forces have ramped up aerial bombardments in the Lebanese capital, particularly on October 10, resulting in at least 22 fatalities and injuring over 117, according to Lebanon's health ministry. The strikes, which occurred in the densely populated Basta neighbourhood, represent the deadliest Israeli attack in central Beirut since the 34-day war in 2006, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,100 people in Lebanon.
Tensions in the Middle East escalated dramatically following the incursion of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. This attack resulted in the deaths of residents in border settlements and the abduction of approximately 250 hostages.
The militants characterized their actions as retaliation against Israeli measures at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. In response, Israel imposed a complete blockade on Gaza and initiated retaliatory strikes in the enclave, as well as in parts of Lebanon and Syria, before commencing a ground operation in Gaza.
