Israel confirms elimination of senior Iranian officer Gholamreza Soleimani PHOTO
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed the targeted killing of Gholamreza Soleimani, the head of Iran’s Basij forces and the senior officer of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the IDF press service announced on Telegram.
“In an operation yesterday (March 17), based on precise intelligence from the Military Intelligence Directorate (AMAN), the Air Force carried out a targeted strike in the heart of Tehran. As a result, Gholamreza Soleimani, who led the Basij units for the past six years, was eliminated,” the statement said.

The Basij forces are an integral part of the armed structure of Iran’s regime. During internal protests in Iran, particularly amid their recent intensification, Basij units under Soleimani’s command led major operations to suppress unrest, employing harsh violence, mass arrests, and force against civilian demonstrators.
The elimination of Soleimani adds to a list of dozens of high-ranking commanders of Iran’s armed forces neutralized in the operation, dealing another significant blow to the regime’s military command and control system.
“The IDF will continue to act decisively against the leaders of Iran’s terrorist regime,” the statement concluded.
