Israel expands ground operations in Gaza, targets militants, infrastructure VIDEO
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced an intensification of its military operations across the Gaza Strip as part of the ongoing Operation "Gideon's Chariots."
According to a statement released on June 2, IDF troops, guided by intelligence from both the IDF and the Israel Security Agency (ISA), conducted ground raids that resulted in the elimination of several militants, Caliber.Az reports.
Troops reportedly dismantled a number of weapons storage facilities as well as infrastructure used by armed groups both above and below ground.
In parallel, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) carried out airstrikes on dozens of targets throughout Gaza. These included militant cells, tunnel networks, weapons depots, and structures allegedly used by “terror organisations operating in the area.”
The IDF emphasised that the operations aim to neutralise ongoing threats and enhance security for Israeli civilians amid continued conflict in the region.
Israel has launched the operation last month, planning to reliocate the entire population of Gaza — estimated at around two million people — to three designated zones that make up just 25 per cent of the coastal enclave. These include Al-Mawasi in the south, central areas of the strip, and parts of Gaza City in the north. The Gaza Strip measures only 226 square kilometres.
Israel is facing mounting international pressure, including from key allies within the U.S. government, to agree to a ceasefire and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
