Israel not funding Gaza Board of Peace, cites lack of justification
Israel has informed the United States that it will not allocate funds to support the activities of the Gaza Board of Peace, according to a source cited by Israeli broadcaster Kan.
Knesset member Zeev Elkin explained in an interview on Kan that the country “has not provided money to the Peace Council because there is no justification for it.”
He added, “We were attacked, and we have no reason to fund the reconstruction of Gaza.”
The Kan source noted that the decision also helped resolve disputes within Israel’s cabinet, particularly with National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who had previously expressed doubts about Israel’s membership in the council alongside countries such as Türkiye and Qatar.
The Board of Peace is a new international body initiated by Donald Trump that aims to supervise peace efforts and long‑term stability initiatives, beginning with the post‑conflict reconstruction in Gaza.
