Israel pushes region toward full-scale war Statement by Egypt, Jordan, Iraq 

The foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq condemned Israeli actions in Lebanon in a joint statement, emphasising that Israel is driving the region toward full-scale war.

The ministers noted that the escalation will be ceased after an end to Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip. The ministers urged the international community and the UN Security Council to take responsibility and halt the conflict in Gaza, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media. 

On September 24, the ministers met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, discussing cooperation among their countries and preparation for the upcoming summit in Cairo.

Tens of thousands of people flee southern Lebanon with little idea where to find safety as intense Israeli bombardment across Lebanon kills at least 569 people, including 50 children, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.

Israel says it is carrying out “extensive” strikes in Lebanon’s south and Bekaa area. Lebanon’s health minister has said what is happening in his country is “carnage”, as hospitals struggle to cope with the number of casualties from two days of widespread Israeli air strikes targeting the armed group Hezbollah.  

The Israeli military killed the head of Hezbollah’s rocket forces as the strikes continued on September 24, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the group was leading Lebanon “to the edge of the abyss”.  

Hezbollah responded by firing more than 300 rockets into northern Israel, injuring six people, according to the military.  

Although neither side seemed interested in backing down, US President Joe Biden told the UN General Assembly that a full-scale conflict was “not in anyone's interest” and insisted that a “diplomatic solution is still possible”.  

UN Secretary General António Guterres warned that the world “cannot afford Lebanon to become another Gaza”.
