Israel shatters Gaza ceasefire as more than 400 Palestinians killed in IDF strikes
A senior Hamas official has accused Israel of unilaterally ending the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to resume military operations in the region.
Hamas condemned the move, calling it an escalation of Israel's "aggression" and warned that it exposes hostages to an uncertain fate. The group held Netanyahu's government fully responsible for the collapse of the ceasefire and urged the US, Qatar, and Egypt—key mediators in the deal—to take action, Caliber.Az reports via Israel media.
Hamas also called on Arab and Muslim nations to support the "Palestinian resistance" and push for the lifting of the blockade imposed on Gaza. The group is demanding that the UN Security Council convene an emergency meeting to issue a resolution requiring Israel to cease its airstrikes.
Palestinian health authorities reported a significant increase in casualties due to Israeli airstrikes. The death toll has risen to 404, with over 660 individuals injured and many more believed to be trapped under rubble. The Gaza Health Ministry, which provided the figures on Telegram and WhatsApp, indicated that the number could still rise. Health facilities in Gaza are struggling to cope with the overwhelming number of casualties. The International Red Cross has raised concerns over shortages in medical supplies and the overwhelming pressure on hospitals.
"What we heard from Palestine Crescent colleagues this morning is that many medical facilities are literally overwhelmed across Gaza," said Tommaso Della Longa, spokesperson for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The ongoing blockade of aid into Gaza has exacerbated the situation, leaving health providers struggling to meet the needs of the injured.
