Israel unveils new air-to-surface cruise missile Wind Demon
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has announced the launch of its new air-to-surface cruise missile, the Wind Demon.
This lightweight, affordable munition is designed to meet the growing demand for effective and cost-efficient systems capable of mass deployment. The missile weighs 140 kilograms (308 pounds) and has a range of over 200 kilometres (124 miles), Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Guy Bar Lev, Executive Vice-President and General Manager of IAI's Systems Missiles and Space Group, highlighted the missile's advanced features, including laser-homing seekers, electro-optics for day or night operations, automatic target recognition, and enhanced connectivity for real-time control. The Wind Demon is adaptable for various blast, fragmentation, and penetration effects, with a warhead exceeding 20 kilograms (44 pounds).
The missile can be launched from multiple aerial platforms, such as helicopters and warplanes, and is designed for affordability and mass deployment, addressing the need for large quantities of munitions in modern warfare. This development comes amidst increasing global demand for versatile and economically viable military technology.
