Israeli army confirms accidental artillery strike killed Kibbutz resident
The Israeli army has acknowledged that the death of Misgav Am resident Ofer Moskovitz was the result of an accidental artillery strike carried out by Israeli forces during operations targeting Lebanon, Maariv reports.
Investigators found that an artillery battery miscalculated its firing range, causing multiple shells to land within the Kibbutz. Early reports had suggested the incident involved an anti-tank missile fired by Hezbollah militants, but subsequent findings confirmed that the ordnance originated from the Israeli military.
The MADA medical service confirmed that Moskovitz , a member of the Kibbutz’s rapid response team, also managed a local avocado plantation.
The military investigation is ongoing, and no definitive conclusion has yet been reached regarding the cause of the miscalculation.
Moskovitz, 60, was killed in early hours of March 22 when a projectile hit the car he was riding in, setting it on fire. Hezbollah claimed it was targeting soldiers.
