Israeli, Dutch premiers mull anti-Semitic incident in Amsterdam over phone call
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has held a phone conversation with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte regarding a recent anti-Semitic attack on Israeli citizens in Amsterdam, according to the office of the Israeli Prime Minister.
In an official statement, Netanyahu emphasised the critical importance of the Dutch government ensuring the safety of all Israelis in the Netherlands, including those injured during the incident, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
He expressed his deep concern over the planned anti-Semitic assault on Israeli nationals and urged for enhanced security measures for the Jewish community in the Netherlands.
Netanyahu also thanked Prime Minister Rutte for his swift response to the attacks, as well as for his declaration that the incident was a serious anti-Semitic act.
The statement further revealed that, upon Netanyahu's instructions, planes are currently departing from Israel to repatriate its citizens, including the injured.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte condemned the attacks, describing them as anti-Semitic and unacceptable. He assured Netanyahu that the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice.
Notably, Israeli football fans were assaulted in a "serious incident of violence in Amsterdam" overnight into November 8, according to authorities. The Israeli government has announced it will be dispatching planes to evacuate the affected citizens.
Hundreds of supporters of Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv football team "were ambushed and attacked in Amsterdam" on November 7 evening as they were leaving the stadium after a Europa League match against Dutch side Ajax, the Israeli embassy to the United States said on the social media platform X.
