Israeli military chief vows to continue operations against Hezbollah Photo
The head of the Israel Defense Forces, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, has said Israeli forces will continue operations in southern Lebanon aimed at dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure, during a visit to frontline units on May 6.
According to an IDF statement, Zamir toured the area of Khiam alongside senior commanders, where he held an operational assessment, received briefings and met with troops engaged in ongoing combat operations, Caliber.Az reports.
He told soldiers that their mission was to remove all threats to Israeli communities and military personnel, stressing that all IDF capabilities were available to them and urging continued efforts to locate enemy fighters and dismantle militant infrastructure.
Zamir said that since the start of Operation Roaring Lion, more than 2,000 Hezbollah fighters had been targeted and killed, adding that Israel would seek to expand its operations when opportunities arise.
“We have a historic opportunity to change the regional reality in this multi-front operation,” he said, adding that Israel was closely monitoring developments and remained prepared for a broader escalation if needed.
The military chief further indicated that Israel has additional targets in Iran and remains on high alert for a possible expansion of operations aimed at weakening Tehran.
During the visit, Zamir also toured what the IDF described as a Hezbollah tunnel approximately 25 metres deep beneath a civilian site, which he said demonstrated the group’s use of populated areas for military purposes.
He praised Israeli commanders and reservists for their role in the campaign and said operations would continue until long-term security for communities in northern Israel is ensured.
