Istanbul cracks down on terror: 1,500 arrested in 2025
Istanbul’s Chief Prosecutor’s Office has reported that more than 1,500 individuals suspected of terrorism have been arrested in Türkiye’s largest city since the start of the year.
Between January 1 and October 31, authorities detained a total of 2,922 suspects in investigations targeting members and activities of various terrorist organisations operating in Istanbul, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Of those detained, 1,526 have been formally arrested, 841 received suspended sentences, and 55 were released.
Among those released, around 38% provided useful information about the organisations and their members, reportedly in exchange for leniency.
The prosecutor’s office emphasised that investigations into terrorist activities in the city will continue.
